Only 23 weeks left until Super Bowl XLIX; time just flies, doesn’t it?! This week, we’re looking at a classic commercial from a classic brand: Coca-Cola’s “Mean Joe Greene.” The spot was released on October 1, 1979, and aired during the 1980 Super Bowl.
The advertisement, created by McCann-Erickson, won a Clio Award for the best ad of the year. It even inspired a TV movie: “The Steeler and the Pittsburgh Kid.”
Even though this commercial aired before most people knew what the Internet was, a full-length version of the spot ended up on YouTube and it has earned more than 2.1 million views.
