Behind the Scenes at ViralGains: Chase Compton

You’re walking down the street. Birds are chirping, people are smiling…and then you see it. A blinding flash of orange in the distance. Is it the sun? A sign warning you of street workers up ahead? Nope. It’s Chase Compton, ViralGains’ own in house ginger and graphic designer extraordinaire.

With a personality as wild as his hair, Chase takes office fun to a whole new level. It’s hard to imagine that at one point, he spent every day alone working from home. Though his time as a freelancer helped him to improve his design skills and increase his professional knowledge, after two years Chase decided that he wanted an office life.

But let’s go back a bit. Soon after Chase moved to Lowell, Massachusetts, from Vermont in 2011, he landed a full-time job as a designer for a “daily deals” company. Unexpectedly, the company was forced to lay off 85% of its staff—Chase was part of the cut. He had to shift gears immediately in order to support himself financially.

In two weeks, Chase buffed up his resume, put together a portfolio, created a website and did everything in his power to become a professional level freelance designer. He put in countless hours of hard work and networking, and luckily, received enough interest to kick start his own freelance business. In his own words, “I cheated death.”

It was through his freelance business that he found ViralGains. Founders Dan Levin and Jay Singh sought out Chase’s services in the summer of 2012—Chase continued to freelance for ViralGains over the next year or so.

However, in December of 2013, he decided he was done with freelancing. On a Thursday, he called up most of his clients to let them know he was moving on and now searching for a full-time job. He received a call from Dan Levin on Sunday. ViralGains was growing quickly and needed a full-time graphic designer. Dan asked Chase if he could come in the next day and one month later, Chase was officially hired.

The timing couldn’t have been better, and Chase couldn’t have been happier. He immediately formed a connection with the rest of the team and began branding ViralGains. Here, he thrives because he’s surrounded by like-minded people—people who work hard not only for themselves, but also for the bigger picture.

And now, with the stability of a full-time gig, Chase is able to live his life to the fullest. Most of his time is spent with his “babies”: his girlfriend of five years Alicia, his dogs and his 2011 VW Golf TDI Diesel.

Chase Compton

Though Chase loves Boston’s big-city vibe, he can’t ignore his rural roots. His frequent trips to Vermont with Alicia and his dogs, Beau and Lucy, are filled with outdoor adventures. In Lowell, he spends time creating his own cooking recipes or visiting the city’s hotspots for a cold beer or a glass of whiskey.

To sum it all up, this guy is the bomb. A natural-born artist with a killer sense of humor, Chase Compton makes each day in the office a little bit better than the last.

“So, on the train this morning…”

Chase always has THE BEST train stories. From swingers to nasty train conductors to “grabby” passengers, Chase has dealt with it all. We keep telling him he needs to write a book filled with all of his commuting experiences…

“Morning guys!”

“Morning” might be a little bit of a stretch. This guy usually strolls into the office around 11am…if we’re lucky. Don’t get me wrong, Chase works his butt off designing blog headers, case studies, whitepapers, SlideShares, decks, etc. at all hours of the day (and night)—it’s just sometimes he likes to do so in the comfort of his own home.

“Let’s DO IT!”

Whether it’s walking to Starbucks, heading outside for a smoke break, or even hitting up the liquor store for beer after work, Chase is always on board (unless unnamed parties dump a last minute project into his lap).

“That’s the hotness”

As ViralGains’ Hotness Facilitator, Chase is all about dat hotness—and it works out, he’s usually the one creating it!

“ewoh meh gursh you gurs”

If you’re at all familiar with South Park, you’ll know that this is how Cartman says, “oh my gosh you guys.” But what does this have to do with Chase? Get a few drinks in him and he’ll give you the best damn Cartman impression you’ve ever heard.
