Lucy Coffey, the oldest living female veteran at 108-years-old, dreamed of visiting Washington D.C. and the Women’s Memorial. Her dream finally came true in July 2014. She was met at the airport terminal by gratitudinal applause and then visited the White House where she was welcomed by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Coffey was part of the Women’s Army Corps during World War II and has since inspired thousands of women who have joined the United States Armed Forces. Stars and Stripes, a YouTube channel that provides independent news and information to the U.S. military community, created this video in honor of Lucy and her awe-inspiring journey.
