Rubbing shoulders, shaking hands and kissing babies are some of the things you may expect when you attend a normal Advertising/Public Relations awards ceremony. However, the Publicity Club of New England’s 2014 Bell Ringer Awards was anything but.
The night kicked off with a cocktail/networking hour where agencies had the chance to mingle…but not in the way you’d expect. At this year’s event, some of the most prominent names in Advertising and Public Relations donned unicorn masks and costume-style fox ears for their chance to win two VIP tickets to the upcoming Boston Calling Music Festival.
ViralGains invited attendees to recreate their favorite viral videos with the aforementioned props, upload their photos to Instagram and include the hashtag #viralbesties. Instaprint machines, triggered by the hashtag, printed out these kooky pictures that made for some pretty great, one-of-a-kind souvenirs. The best photo won those VIP tickets, but every participant ended up with a personal picture to take home. Needless to say, there were a lot of unicorn pics.
After the cocktail hour, patrons entered Theater 1 for the awards ceremony. David Wade, Boston local CBS news anchor, hosted the event and kept the crowd entertained as it anxiously awaited the announcement of this year’s winners. Mullen, Shift Communications, Cone Communications and Porter Novelli were just a few of the agencies awarded for their impressive campaigns.
Check out some of the pictures we took throughout this amazing night.
The fun even carried over into the office this week. Looks like there’s more than one way to use a unicorn mask…
